Information for Prospective Members
The STD Register is dedicated to all who have an interest in Sunbeam, Talbot & Darracq motor cars manufactured up to 1935. Its prime purpose is to keep a Register of all such surviving cars, wherever in the world they may be, and to promote their restoration and maintenance in working order suitable for use on the road.
The following cars may be included in the STD Register:
- Those constructed by the Sunbeam Motor Car Company Ltd in Wolverhampton up to 1935 when the company was acquired by Rootes Securities Ltd.
- Cars made by Clement Talbot Ltd in London up to the time of the acquisition by Rootes in 1935 but including those designed by Georges Roesch and constructed thereafter.
- Cars made in France by Société A Darracq (sold as Darracq in England).
- Talbots designed by Anthony Lago and made in France after the demise of STD Motors Ltd.
Subject to the above, and along similar lines to the VSCC, the STD Register requires that in order for a car to be listed in the STD Register of cars at least four of the following main components of the car must be original or exact copies of the original: chassis, engine, front axle, rear axle and gearbox. If any of these is an exact copy, rather than original, such details should be notified.
Although owners of eligible cars comprise the bulk of the current membership, any former owner, prospective owner or any person who has a particular interest in the marques which make up the eligible cars may join the club.
The current subscription for the STD Register is £55 pa.
Paid-up members receive a monthly illustrated newsletter, a journal, usually published about twice a year, and access to the Members’ Forum which contains a vast amount of technical and archive information and is a valuable focal point for the exchange of views.
The Members’ Forum is available to paid-up members only.
Members also have exclusive access to the Register’s parts stock.
The Register runs a full range of events on a national and regional basis and most years there is an organised tour to Europe.
Please note that membership relates to an individual applicant and not to the car, or cars, owned.
Regrettably there are certain legal formalities which all members must accept and these are more fully explained in the application process. In summary: You will become a member of the company which owns the Register and your liability will be limited by guarantee to £1; Your personal membership information will be shared with other members and you will have access to other member’s personal membership information via the Members’ Forum but you must not undertake any form of unauthorised multiple mailing to the members nor pass their information to any party outside the membership of the STD Register; Any technical information or material is provided in good faith but you must make your own decision as to its suitability for use in your own particular circumstances.
We recommend that you read these Guidance Notes when you are ready to make your application. If you still have any queries please use our Contact Form and we will do our best to assist you.
Annual subscriptions are due for payment on 1st January for each ensuing year. A reduced rate applies in the first year for those joining in the second half of the year.
As with many clubs and institutions, we ask you to pay your subscription by Direct Debit. We use GoCardless as our financial intermediary and all the usual DD protections apply. You will then automatically be charged for your first and future subscriptions. This greatly simplifies administration of membership subscriptions by our volunteer club officers. You can cancel your DD at any time.
For non-UK residents who do not have a UK bank account please see the Guidance Notes.
